First, you have to understand why you have depression. Depression implies insufficient yang qi. Moxibustion is a great way to supplement yang qi in your body, just like the sunshine. That’s why you will see that a lot of people are easily depressed when the weather is bad, such as on a rainy, gloomy, dark day.
The most often used acupuncture point is the belly button. But depending on the actual situation, the points selected might need to change. I normally recommend clients to do moxibustion at Bai Hui (GV 20), Da Zhui (GV 14), Mingmen (GV4) and then in the front at Danzhong (CV17), Shen Que (CV8) and Guanyuan (CV4), as well as Zusanli (ST 36) and San Yin Jiao (SP6).
If this sounds intimidating, you can just do moxibustion on the belly button.
Here is some story sharing from the Chinese health blog.
This client suffered from femoral head necrosis. He was very depressed and had lost confidence in his life. While he did guided moxibustion for his bone recovery, his spirit was also getting way better. His mother-in-law said that now his great mood is bringing happiness to the whole family.
