Moxibustion For Swelling Ankle

Swelling ankle is also very commonly seen. It could be due to injury, or due to a systematic problem like a kidney deficiency or spleen issue. If it’s just a local injury, it would belong in the category of a sports injury. You can refer to the sports injury section.

Whichever reason is causing the swelling, it means there is fluid retention around that area. Moxibustion could steam the water into qi format and promote circulation. Normally, people can feel the difference after the first time using moxibustion. A very simple way is to just hold the moxa roll, light it with a match or lighter, and heat that area.

Of course, if it’s due to kidney or spleen yang deficiency, there are some other acupuncture points to be used as well, such as Shen Que (CV8), also called belly button; San Yin Jiao (SP6); Diji (SP8); and Yinlingquan (SP9).   For kidney issues, Mingmen (GV4) and Guanyuan (CV4) can also be used.
